The Rules of CRM Club
...or the master plan to implement a shared contact database
- 1st rule: You do not talk about SHARING YOUR CONTACT
- 2nd rule: You DO NOT talk about SHARING YOUR CONTACT
- 3rd rule: If someone says "mine" or goes limp, taps out the migration is over
- 4th RULE: Only two guys to an interview
- 5th RULE: One step at a time.
- 6th RULE: No emails, no phones.
- 7th RULE: Management involvement will go on as long as they have to.
- 8th RULE: If this is your first night at CRM CLUB, you HAVE to enter a contact.
1st rule: You do not talk about SHARING YOUR CONTACT
A contact is a human being you are communicating with, and that's YOUR contact. That's personal, like a toothbrush. That's sensitive, that's as complex as a relation between two human beings, and a computer is way too stupid to properly store and describe that.
On the good news, what you need to share is informations about the contact, not about the relation. If you look at it carefully, YOUR contact is also THEIR contacts, and might even be MY contact as well, unless you are the only person YOUR contact exchange with (and in that case, I'm quite sure you wouldn't want to be HER/HIS contact)
2nd rule: You DO NOT talk about SHARING YOUR CONTACT
That's also about having a new tool, a new process... something that will change. And no one likes change, resistance to change is part of any one, and any organisation.
On the good news, it will allow you to do less update of contact, and having more people benefiting from it when that's done.
3rd rule: If someone says "mine" or goes limp, taps out the migration is over
The mind changing benefit of a shared contact system is when everyone trust it. If a contact exists, it's there, and it has the most updated information. If one keeps "shared" contacts outside, it looses some of it's benefit.
4th RULE: Only two guys to an interview
5th RULE: One step at a time.
6th RULE: No emails, no phones.
7th RULE: Management involvement will go on as long as they have to.
8th RULE: If this is your first night at CRM CLUB, you HAVE to enter a contact.
